Attended a birding program “Birding by Ear” at the Hassayampa River Preserve. Kathe Anderson was our expert birding guide for this extremely educational event.
Kathe explained during a forty-five minute classroom discussion the many different vocal sounds of birds: calls, songs, AND bill sounds (roadrunners, woodpeckers, flicker). Feather sounds? Of course: Ravens, Doves, Quail.
After the classroom discussion we were treated to a walk along one of the Preserve’s trails where Kathe helped us “bird by ear” to identify birds in the Hassayampa Preserve. Following are photos captured during our trail walk. We were also treated to viewing a Cooper’s Hawk, and Red-tailed Hawk, Gila Woodpecker, Turkey Vulture.
